singing by the sea

30th May 2011
On Saturday I travelled to Clifden in Connemara to photograph a local choir which was doing an outdoor concert for charity. It was timed to coincide with Bealtaine. Bealtaine is considered a cross-quarter day, marking the midpoint in the Sun's progress between the spring equinox and summer solstice and consequently it is an important time in the Pagan calendar. My wife sings with this choir which is called Cantairi Chonamara - in fact she is a founding member. They are a great bunch and travelling down to Clifden from Westport provided an opportunity to meet old friends. Here are a few shots of the event. I learnt that singers pull some amazing faces whilst singing and it is very difficult to capture a group shot so that all are looking their best!

Photo comment By Jean: You did us proud, Lyle - really captured the spirit of the occasion. I especially love the shot of Donal in full voice! Thanks for recording this joyful get together for us.
